GFX
Born and raised on the north east coast of England Geoff aka GFX/ORGON SYSTEMS was one of the first electronic dance musicians and DJ’s to venture onto the emerging north east rave scene in 1988. Using a unique mix of commercially available vinyl, his own modified drum machines and second hand modified synths, Geoff set up one of the first dance music pirate radio stations (K.L.F.M) and played/headlined some of the quirkiest and largest raves in the UK.
The “Eternal EP” was initially released on tape in 1989 selling in their hundreds with even more bootlegs being played in after rave parties and bedroom chill out sessions. Following lots of interest from music press, radio and indie record labels, Geoff released the “ETERNAL EP” on vinyl with funding from an enthusiastic but straight laced accountant who shared a house with Guy from TRAX records in Newcastle. Guy aka “BASS GENERATOR” was a prominent figure in the dance scene who as the story goes would play eternal at the house he shared with the accountant (who thought he could be the next Tony Wilson). Which resulted in a very strange journey of Eternal being recorded with Shane Peagram and John Ogle at an even stranger makeshift recording set up in an even stranger house called “the chill on the hill” on Newcastles Westgate Road.
Eternal quickly sold over a thousand copies along with Geoff and Shane playing some mad crazy raves up and down the UK. However as the intensity of “ETERNAL” grew so did the fall outs and after parting ways with the accountant, GFX released one more track called “BPM 140” which was just a crazy all out, slightly off course single sided white vinyl analogue trance record that they drove around and sold to record stores all over the country in a falling apart mini bus. Unfortunately everyone was so stoned they forgot most of the places they had sold it to, so to this day have never collected all the money.
Almost 35 years later Geoff has been approached by many indie record labels who have wanted to reissue Eternal but when Adam and Lewis from Magic Ritmo got in touch he knew they were the right people to work with as their passion for the true story of the rave scene and unheard stories was what Eternal needed.
Following a rammed live show at the Lubberfiend in Newcastle for the launch of the ETERNAL EP reissue. Geoff performed a live DJ set pushed along by his Orgon Systems “ENIGISER” synthesiser pumping up the space and played and sang Eternal live. Seeing all generations together raving and being so moved by the esoteric tripped out track he recorded 34 years ago has been an exquisite experience and Geoff is set to perform a series of live shows over the coming year.
